Forrest Place festive transformation makes it THE Christmas destination
Forrest Place will become a festive season wonderland when it transforms into Perth City Christmas Place on the weekend of 5 and 6 December.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the award winning public space would welcome families, shoppers and Pageant goers with two days of free kids activities and theming to delight all ages.
“We don’t have a white Christmas in Perth and that’s ok, because what we do have is a holiday season full of colour and light under a blue summer sky,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“That’s what makes this new event particularly special – it will bring a northern hemisphere inspired Christmas experience to our city centre.”
Forrest Place will be astroturfed and house four Christmas themed dome marquees, two of them dedicated to Santa’s workshops for Gingerbread and Snowdome decorating for kids.
You can also experience a water-based snowfall entering the White dome, and in the Santa dome, sit in the big man’s fireside chair and also write and post a note to Santa.
Between domes you’ll walk along a hedged path, lined with white picket fencing and dotted with old English lamp posts, encountering Christmas entertainers dressed as characters such as snowmen, elves and reindeer. You might even see Santa himself!
The event promises countless photo opportunities, with Forrest Place dressed in its Christmas best, complete with brand new 13 metre Christmas tree and its new LED message ribbon.
“This event will be a truly unique and magical experience for Perth and one the City is pleased to offer residents and visitors free of charge as part of our annual seven week Festival of Christmas – WA’s largest Christmas celebration,” Ms Scaffidi said.
Event go-ers will be required to register on site to participate in the free Santa’s workshops on a first come, first served basis.
After the workshops conclude at 4pm, Christmas Place will be illuminated for viewing in the evening, with new custom festive Projections on the GPO (commencing 4 December) providing a stunning backdrop from 7:30pm.
There will also be extended trading on 5 December for the City’s numerous and diverse retailers.
“I’d encourage people to arrive early and make the most of Christmas Place, do some shopping or enjoy a meal with family and friends before taking in the Chistmas Pageant or viewing some of the City’s 100,000 lights and decorations,” the Lord Mayor said.
“This time of year is all about giving and sharing with loved ones and Christmas Place will offer new awe-inspiring ways to do just that.”
To facilitate the event, the Forrest Place interactive sculpture Water Labyrinth will be switched off from Friday 4 December to Monday 7 December.
