The vandalised sculpture damaged during the opening week of the world renowned CowParade exhibition has been repaired, and has now returned to the parade.
Broken overnight on Wednesday, 2 November 2016, Beauty X Ethics by local artist Benjamin Kontoolas was immediately removed from the parade and has since been restored.
The repaired cow has been relocated and now features in the David Jones window in Murray Street Mall, protecting the public artwork from further vandalism.
With its bright pink neon wings, Beauty X Ethics will join the Christmas lights and decorations in brightening the mall.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi praised the community’s support for the artist and his artwork.
“When we announced on social media that one of our magnificent cows was damaged, the comments of support for the artist were overwhelming,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The public artwork’s return is not only important to the City and the artist, but to everyone that missed out on seeing Beauty X Ethics.
Ms Scaffidi said the City is proud to showcase local artists on the world stage.
“We witness hundreds of people experiencing the wonder of the CowParade every day,” the Lord Mayor said.
“This event has confirmed the community’s appetite for temporary public artwork and we are so proud to see our local WA artists reaching new audiences.”
CowParade Perth 2016 will continue for the next three weeks, wrapping up on Sunday 11 December.
