The City of Perth is committed to protecting JH Abrahams Reserve as public green open space, after it transitioned from the City of Subiaco.
Following boundary changes associated with the City of Perth Act, management of the reserve was transferred to the City of Perth.
The City of Subiaco has written to the Minister for Local Government Paul Miles, asking him to direct the City of Perth to pay $726,500.00 as financial settlement, relating to the Act.
The City of Subiaco claims the money is to cover costs for redundancies and loan repayments for street lighting.
The City of Perth will oppose a monetary settlement until there is mutual agreement regarding all land transfers and financials – including the provision of documentation for land adjoining JH Abrahams Reserve.
The City of Perth continues to analyse data and financials provided by the City of Subiaco for accuracy and authenticity, as part of asset transfers.
Negotiations over the management of the land adjoining JH Abrahams Reserve are ongoing, and agreement on any financial compensation can’t be reached until all matters are resolved.
The City will continue to advocate for the best outcome for all of its residents including those in Nedlands and Crawley.
There is no compensation requirement under State Government Guiding Principles for District Boundary Adjustments, albeit the City of Perth is attempting to reach a satisfactory position through negotiation.
