The newly upgraded Supreme Court Gardens, in the heart of the City, have been officially re-opened.
A joint partnership between the City of Perth and the State Government, the revitalisation of the iconic public space formed part of the overall development of the Elizabeth Quay precinct.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the City designed, managed, constructed and oversaw contract administration costs of the $3.1 million upgrade, in liaison with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.
"This is another great example of the City of Perth and the State Government combining expertise and resources, which has resulted in a complete makeover and has reinvigorated the Supreme Court Gardens," Ms Scaffidi said.
"Projects such as this improve Perth's infrastructure, amenity and vibrancy and appeal to ratepayers, residents, visitors, commuters and tourists.
"To have a project of this size and nature completed in around eight months is testament to the positive working relationship between the City and MRA."
The Supreme Court Gardens now feature:
· Formal garden entrances
· A new connected pedestrian pathway
· Upgraded public toilet facilities
· Restored memorials, sundial and heritage gates
· Improved storm water and drainage system
· Upgraded lighting, sewerage, communications and reticulation.
"Parks and public open spaces are an important part of any Capital City," Ms Scaffidi said.
"It is spectacular to see the Supreme Court Gardens refreshed and I encourage everyone to come and experience this beautiful parkland."
