A 50-tonne, fire-breathing mash-up of machinery, steel and bass descends on the City this week, in Perth’s biggest live art event since The Giants roamed our streets.
Arcadia will feature DJ sets from world class producers Alison Wonderland and Leftfield in a festival of music at Elizabeth Quay.
Tipped to attract crowds of 60,000 people over five days, the City of Perth predicts a direct economic benefit to local businesses of almost $10 million.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said Arcadia is a significant investment in the local economy.
“Events like Arcadia breathe even more life into the City, increasing foot traffic and providing our local businesses the boost they need before the Christmas season takes off,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The City of Perth invested $50,000 to help secure this interactive experience at Elizabeth Quay.
“Great lifetime memories result from such investments and connect people to locations through such experiences.”
On Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 November, Arcadia will play host to the community for a free event called Steam Ahead.
The City of Perth will showcase a state of the art virtual reality experience at Steam Ahead, blending detailed 3D modelling of the City with virtual reality goggles.
“Technology like the 3D City model and virtual reality are changing the way Local Government operates,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“These cutting edge innovations enable us to make more informed decisions about infrastructure, planning and development approvals.
“We’re excited to showcase the ground-breaking technology we use to make Perth one of the most liveable cities in the world.”
