The City of Perth is offering enticing grants of up to $40,000 for property owners to support the conservation and use of heritage places in the City.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said heritage places have an important role to play in protecting the environment, creating vibrant communities, and sustaining local economies.
“Heritage buildings give us a fantastic opportunity to preserve the identity and unique sense of place that is Perth,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“We want to make sure that future generations can enjoy the aesthetic, historic and social value of these places, and so we are working with property owners to retain their significance.”
Owners of rateable properties in the City of Perth that are listed on the City's Register of Places of Cultural Heritage Significance or in the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Heritage Inventory, can apply for heritage grants for projects such as the reconstruction and restoration of heritage fabric, façade works, conservation management plans, and removal of non-structural intrusive elements, to name just a few.
“Owners of heritage buildings in the CBD, Northbridge, West Perth, East Perth and Crawley, have a very special asset, but we understand there are costs and other difficulties involved in maintaining or adapting the buildings for contemporary use,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The Council will continue to work with property owners to ensure our heritage is respected and celebrated.”
Applications for Heritage Grants are currently open and must be received by 30 January 2016. For more information go to: www.perth.wa.gov.au/heritage or contact Noel Robertson on 08 9461 3113 or noel.robertson@cityofperth.wa.gov.au.
