Beginning in late November, Supreme Court Gardens will be closed to the public as the City begins construction on a $3.1 State Government funded upgrade project. The City's construction costs to perform the upgrade is $2.55 million.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the project is another step forward in preparing Perth for the completion of Elizabeth Quay.
“The Supreme Court Gardens Upgrade will revitalise the popular recreation and event space,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The upgrades follow the successful reopening of Barrack Square Jetty by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and the City’s completion of its Barrack Street two-way conversion and enhancement project.
“It is these smaller – relative to the size and scope of Elizabeth Quay – projects that are vital in readying our city to cope with the demands of Perth’s new major infrastructure developments.”
The Supreme Court Gardens upgrade is due for completion in April 2016 and will include the restoration to park memorials, a new meandering pathway, formal garden entrances, upgrades to lighting, drainage and irrigation systems and a refurnished public toilet facility.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said Perth’s growth over the last few years has been remarkable.
“With all these projects taking shape, Perth is really beginning to mature into a more sophisticated city,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“The transformation of Perth is truly a spectacle, and while some disruptions maybe experienced in the short term we should all take pride in watching our city grow.”
