The City of Perth will invest in a diverse range of arts, cultural and sporting events to ensure Perth continues to grow as a dynamic, contemporary City in 2017.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the events and programs will enhance Perth’s rich cultural landscape, with sponsorship of a broad spectrum of entertainment to appeal to all residents, visitors and tourists.

“Investing in and promoting these wonderful events brings foot traffic into the City from all over Perth and Western Australia, supporting businesses and creating the activation and vitality people expect to see in a Capital City,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“The City encourages innovative experiences that breathe new life into Perth’s urban neighbourhoods, and we have committed to support these events to the tune of $885,000.”

As the civic partner of the Perth International Arts Festival (PIAF), the City of Perth has pledged sponsorship of $360,000 to the longest-running multi-arts celebration in the state, from 10 February to 5 March.

“The City and PIAF enjoy a longstanding, respectful partnership and our economic modelling estimates the festival will bring $56.15 million into the local economy and create 227 jobs,” the Lord Mayor said.

“We are proud to support well-loved and highly visited events like PIAF and FRINGE World while also sponsoring smaller events and acknowledging the equally important contribution they make to the social and cultural identity of our City.”
