Continuing to reach stellar heights on the world stage, Perth has been recognised in the top ten Global Cities of the Future for its Foreign Direct Investment strategy.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the 2016-17 international rankings – released by FDI Intelligence – validate Perth’s core focus on economic development and strategies to attract foreign direct investment.

“As the gateway between Australia, Asia and the Indian Ocean rim, Perth plays a significant role in international engagement, and our connectivity allows us to focus on growing industries and trade opportunities,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Sharing time zones with key global markets – such as Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong – gives us a distinct advantage over other Australian Capitals and Perth’s investment potential is being internationally realised.”

The Lord Mayor said Perth had risen from 16th to 10th in Foreign Direct Investment strategy since 2014-15, and it had previously ranked 5th in ratings of Human Capital and Lifestyle.

“Perth has changed dramatically over the past ten years and it is continuing this transformation.

“Large-scale capital works projects provide great opportunities for local and international investors and drive further economic growth and job creation.”

Perth’s competitive status as an ideal business and investment destination continues to be recognised, as it holds 7th in global liveability rankings and scored in the top 10 per cent of international cities in the latest Mercer Quality of Life Survey.

“Along with recognising Perth’s central role in tourism, business and economic development, the landmark City of Perth Act will enhance our role to improve global city-to-city relationships, providing flow-on benefits to City stakeholders and greater Western Australia.”

Perth continues to facilitate an active role on the world stage through various international industry forums, interactive Sister City relationships and it holds a prime position as the only Australian member of the World Energy Cities Partnership.
