Summer is almost upon us and that brings the return of Northbridge Piazza’s free outdoor movie and event season to the City of Perth, October 2015 – May 2016.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the public community event space and Perth’s first free outdoor cinema – the Northbridge Piazza & SuperScreen – offered more than just free movies.

“We have beautiful long summers in Perth and are delighted to welcome all ages to gather outdoors and take advantage of this in Northbridge at the family-friendly, grassed Piazza space,” the Lord Mayor said.

“This season, we’re presenting everything from kids’ activity days and fitness classes, through to foreign language cinema, recent releases, and rare screenings of old skool classics.”

Every Wednesday is Date Night, inviting you to bring your significant other or bestie and a picnic for two, to enjoy a romantic feature film under the stars. The last Date Night each month brings a new series called Winona Wednesdays – films starring Winona Ryder. The cult classic Beetlejuice (1988, M) will kick off the City’s annual Carnival Macabre festival.

From 28 October, Carnival Macabre will bring four days of spooky films and family fun to coincide with Halloween and Day of the Dead weekend. Events will include Mexican cultural activities, performances, food and films, as well as late night screenings of horror classics and all-ages dress-up events including the City’s themed monthly family activity day, Piazzarama.

Every Saturday, all season, brings 5:30pm Free Flicks for Kids screenings, showing live action and animated family favourites; and December will bring a dedicated program of holiday season favourites under the banner Festive Flicks as part of the Perth City Festival of Christmas.

The Lord Mayor said the 2015/16 season has been programmed to appeal to a broad range of ages and interests in the Perth community.

“The City supports and presents a range of activities throughout the year which contribute to the wellbeing and vibrancy of our community. We’re pleased to also do this through our Film Season events program, which also includes free yoga and fitness classes all season,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Whether people are coming to a Piazza event or screening with friends or loved ones; we encourage them to arrive early if they want a seat in one of our beanbags and to please bring only low chairs if any. Picnic blankets and food are welcome, but note the Piazza is a smoke and alcohol-free, family friendly zone.”
